Tournament Structure • Board Size: 13x13 • Time Settings: Fischer time with 25 minutes + 3 seconds 8 players will be grouped into teams of two. The event will kick off with two separate 2v2 semi-final matches. The winning teams from those matches will then face off in the Grand Final. Pairings will be made according to the average level of the two players. 📜 Rules and How to Play The Go board will be stationed on a table a few meters away from the main climbing wall. 2 different metal spots, which are about 3 meters high up, will be used during the match. • One player from the Black team and one from the White team start at the board. Their teammates wait in a "blind zone" about 5 meters away, unable to see the board state while they wait. • Once the timer starts, the first Black player plays their move on the board, climbs on the left side until they touch the left metal spot, climbs back down, and then hits the timer. • The moment the timer is hit, the white player can play their move. Meanwhile, the first Black player walks to their teammate and taps them, swapping places with their teammate. When the first white player is done with climbing and touching the right side metal, they can hit the timer and the second black player can play. • The first White player tags in their own waiting teammate. • The second players from both teams will repeat this process. However, once both players on a team have climbed their starting wall, the routes switch! Black players will start climbing the second wall, and White players will start climbing the first wall. This alternating cycle continues for the rest of the game.

⚡ RELAY GO – SPEED, TEAMWORK & SURPRISES!
Get ready for one of the most entertaining and unpredictable Go events of the European Go Congress!
Relay Go transforms a normal game into a fast-paced team experience. Twenty players will take part in one special match, with ten players on each side. Every participant will contribute to the same game, trying to understand the plans of their teammates and continue them without any discussion.
The event is designed purely for fun, teamwork, and learning. After the game, a professional player will review the match and explain the most interesting moments, decisions, mistakes, and missed opportunities.
📅 Event Details
Format: One 10 vs. 10 Relay Go match Board Size: 19×19 Time Control: 5 minutes + 15 seconds Fischer increment per move, per team Number of Participants: 20 Registration: Individual registration only Participation: The first 20 people to register will be accepted
The organizers will divide the participants into two teams of ten before the game.
📜 The Rules
- Team Composition
The match will be played between two teams of ten players.
Before the game begins, each team will be assigned a fixed playing order:
Player 1 → Player 2 → … → Player 10
This rotation must remain unchanged throughout the game.
After Player 10 completes a move, the rotation begins again with Player 1.
- The Relay Mechanism 🏃
All players wait behind the designated start line, approximately two metres from the board.
When it is their turn, the player must:
- Power-walk to the board.
- Play exactly one move.
- Press the clock.
- Power-walk back behind the start line.
The next player may leave only after the previous player has completely crossed the start line.
3. Walking Only 🚶
For safety reasons, running is not allowed.
Players must power-walk between the start line and the board. Dangerous movement, sliding, pushing, or deliberately obstructing another participant is prohibited.
The referee may warn players who move unsafely. Repeated unsafe behaviour may result in a penalty.
- No Communication 🤫
Players may not communicate about the game in any way.
This includes:
- Giving advice
- Calling out moves or coordinates
- Discussing strategy
- Pointing at the board
- Making tactical hand signals
- Deliberately directing a teammate’s attention to part of the board
Each player must independently understand the position when arriving at the board and decide how to continue the game.
General cheering, celebrations, laughter, and dramatic reactions are welcome, provided they do not communicate information about the position.
- The Clock ⏱️
Each team has one shared clock.
Each team starts with five minutes. After every completed move, fifteen seconds are added to that team’s remaining time.
The team’s clock continues while its players are:
- Walking to or from the board
- Reading the position
- Choosing and playing a move
- Returning behind the start line
- Correcting a mistake
If a player forgets to press the clock, the team’s time continues until the clock is pressed.
A team loses on time if its clock reaches zero.
- Legal Moves
Normal Go rules apply unless otherwise stated by the organizers.
A player must play one legal move and then press the clock.
Passing is allowed and counts as the player’s move.
The game ends after two consecutive passes, resignation, or time loss.
⚠️ Mistakes and Penalties
This is a friendly event, so the main penalty for procedural mistakes will be the time lost while correcting them. The team’s clock continues running throughout the correction.
Leaving Too Early
If the next player leaves before the previous player has completely crossed the start line, the player must return behind the line before approaching the board again.
Playing Out of Turn
If the wrong player makes a move, the move is removed.
The correct player must then approach the board and play. The team’s clock continues during the correction.
Illegal Move
An illegal move must be removed immediately.
The same player must make a legal move before pressing the clock. The team’s clock continues running.
Forgetting to Press the Clock
If a player forgets to press the clock, the opposing team is not required to remind them.
The team’s time continues until the clock is correctly pressed.
Disturbing the Board
If a player knocks stones out of position, the board must be restored under the referee’s supervision.
The team’s clock continues while the position is restored.
If the original position cannot be reconstructed reliably, the referee will decide how the game should continue.
Additional Penalties
Repeated, deliberate, or serious violations may result in a two-point penalty awarded to the opposing team.
The referee may apply a stronger penalty in cases of:
- Deliberate cheating
- Repeated communication
- Dangerous behaviour
- Intentional disruption of the board
- Refusal to follow instructions
The referee’s decision is final.
🎓 Professional Game Review
After the match, a professional Go player will review the game for all participants and spectators.
🎉 Spirit of the Event
Relay Go is not intended to be a serious competitive tournament.
The goal is to enjoy Go together, experience the challenges of team play, adapt to unexpected decisions, and learn from the professional review afterwards.
Players of all strengths are welcome.
Enthusiastic power-walking, cheering, laughter, and dramatic celebrations are encouraged. Communication about the game, however, remains strictly forbidden.
Register early—only the first 20 participants can join!
